Situated on a small allotment in a heritage overlay in Port Melbourne, the 3 bedroom Victorian era home with dual street frontages had been extended in the 1990s, however this alteration didn’t meet the needs of a contemporary family of five plus a dog.
We composed an extension and rationalisation of the existing space, by providing livable spaces for family and work. In particular, a master bedroom suite, study, and alterations to the kitchen, dining, living, bathroom and laundry, enabling the house to adapt to our clients family needs.
A redistribution of the space to take advantage of the lengthy block, provided private open space within the site’s center, and enabled natural light and ventilation to bedroom and living areas which increased the livability of the home’s internal spaces.
Extensive insulation sprayed directly to the building frame before internal linings were fitted to allow the building envelope to perform with a maximum energy performance.
The addition sits subtly in the heritage streetscape, referencing surrounding built forms and traditional materials, whilst delivering a contemporary design outcome.
