A Changing Places toilet facility allows people with high support needs to participate in all elements of community life, without having to limit their time out due to concerns about being able to access a suitable toilet.

We have designed multiple Changing Places facilities, which require significant changes from standard accessible toilet amenities, to allow the safe and dignified use of amenities.

The existing toilets at Healesville Sanctuary had not been refurbished since the 1970’s, so they were completely out of compliance and showing signs of disrepair. We provided a cost effective refurbishment, by keeping the layout to reduce plumbing and concrete costs. We incorporated a compliant DDA toilet along with a new Changing Places toilet to serve adult invalid visitors and their carers.

We embraced the existing qualities of stone walls and timber ceilings, adding new textures such as bamboo plywood toilet partitions, modern sanitary ware, black tapware and textural tiles.
