The site known as the C.H. Smith Complex, is located at 16-24 Charles Street, and parts of Canal Street and Cimitiere Street in Launceston. It comprises seven buildings over three street frontages. Named after businessman Charles Henry Smith, the site represents over 190 years of habitation, commerce, maritime trade and military history in Launceston, with its built history spanning from 1830 to today.

The CH Smith Development Adaptive Reuse Project involved restoration works and adaptive reuse of the buildings that comprised the CH Smith Complex to develop open plan office space for contemporary use whilst respecting and re-using the original heritage fabric.

Plico Design Studio were employed by Artas Architects as the Heritage Advisors for this project. This included liaising with state heritage authorities, monitoring on-site progress, provision of advice during the design and construction phases, research and preparation of the Interpretation Panels.

The C.H. Smith Development Adaptive Reuse Project was nominated in the category of Heritage Architecture for the Tasmanian Chapter of the Australian Institute of Architecture.
