Adaptive reuse architecture is the core of our values, as it acknowledges that we live in a time of continuous change, we must evaluate the past to inform the present. We are respectful to existing heritage, cultural and environmental considerations, whilst encouraging sustainable practices by evolving buildings in a contemporary context for future generations, and exploring the salvage and reuse of existing materials.

We are passionate about respecting our built heritage and providing designs that sensitively reflect the past whilst simultaneously adapting the project to future uses. Some projects will be contemporary builds without an apparent heritage context, here we focus on a thorough investigation of the site to identify opportunities and constraints for passive sustainable initiatives.

We recognise heritage as an important and undervalued resource for sustainability. We are passionate about sustainable design and prioritise sustainable processes and materials in all stages of the project. Sustainable considerations include the evaluation of what may be retained in an existing building, to avoid unnecessary changes, to minimise the carbon footprint of a project. We also prioritise the use of recycled materials including timber and masonry, using natural materials reflecting the history of original occupants, reinsulating for efficient heating and cooling, maximising natural light, prioritising rainwater tanks, abolishing gas connections, and prioritising green energy delivery.
